Reproducción y crecimiento de Notacanthus bonaparte (anguila espinosa de aleta corta): claves sobre la historia de vida de una especie de aguas profundas en el Atlántico NE

Este estudio investiga la biología reproductiva y el crecimiento de Notacanthus bonaparte a partir de 158 especímenes recogidos en octubre de 2023 en el área de Porcupine, Atlántico Nororiental. Los especímenes midieron entre 172 y 495 mm de longitud total. Los otolitos sagitales fueron extraídos, fotografiados, medidos y seccionados, revelando estimaciones de edad que oscilan entre 4 y 20 años. El coeficiente de la tasa de crecimiento (k) se calculó en 0.05±0.02 (1 año–1). Las gónadas fueron extraídas y analizadas histológicamente, lo que confirmó que Notacanthus bonaparte en el Atlántico Nororiental es una especie iterópara con desarrollo de ovocitos sincrónico por grupos. La longitud de madurez (L50) se estimó en 280 mm de longitud total para ambos sexos combinados. Los parámetros de la ecuación de longitud-peso fueron a=15.15 y b=3.32, lo que indica un crecimiento alométrico positivo. Este estudio ofrece nuevas perspectivas sobre la historia de vida de Notacanthus bonaparte y proporciona información valiosa sobre la dinámica poblacional de esta especie de aguas profundas.
