The journal Scientia Marina (CSIC Editorial) consolidates its prestige and rises in the scientific rankings

According to the recently published 2025 Science Citation Index, Scientia Marina—an international and interdisciplinary reference scientific journal dedicated to marine sciences research and published by Editorial CSIC and the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC)—consolidates its prestige and rises in the scientific rankings, reaching an impact factor of 1.8, a Q2 quartile in the Marine & Freshwater Biology category, and consolidating a CiteScore (Scopus) value of 2.1.

The new impact factor more than doubles the value obtained the previous year. This success has been achieved thanks to the quality of the published articles and the work (often invisible but intense and vital) of the reviewers and members of the editorial team, which includes more than 30 experts in marine sciences, and the technical editors.

Under the slogan “Open Marine Science for open minded scientists,” Scientia Marina is committed, beyond metrics, to open (“diamond open access”), public, and high-quality science, as well as ocean conservation. Scientia Marina recently received two new distinctions that reinforce its commitment to quality, fair, and equitable science: the recognition by the Diamond Discovery Hub and the FECYT quality seal.
