Focus and Scope

Scientia Marina is the successor to Investigación Pesquera, a journal of marine sciences published since 1955 by the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar de Barcelona (CSIC). Scientia Marina is included in the Science Citation Index since 1998 and publishes original papers, reviews and comments concerning research in the following fields: Marine Biology and Ecology, Fisheries and Fisheries Ecology, Systematics, Faunistics and Marine Biogeography, Physical Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, and Marine Geology. Emphasis is placed on articles of an interdisciplinary nature and of general interest.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts will be assigned to one of the Assistant Editors, who will critically evaluate their scientific merits, choose appropriate referees and evaluate the reviewer's comments. The Editor-in-Chief decides acceptation or rejection based on the reports and recommendations of the Assistant Editor.


Publication Frequency

Scientia Marina is published as one yearly Volume, divided into four quarterly Issues. A variable number of supplements is usually published every year. Supplements include monographs or Conference Proceedings on subjects related to the scope of the journal.


Open Access Policy

Scientia Marina provides full text, unrestricted access to all its contents immediately upon publication. Accepted articles appear online as "Forthcoming articles" as soon as the galley proofs have been approved by the authors and the Editor-in-Chief. No changes can be made after online publication.


Anti-plagiarism Policy

Editorial CSIC is a member of Similarity Check, a multi-publisher initiative started by Crossref to screen published and submitted content for originality.

Through Similarity Check, we use the iThenticate software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted or published manuscripts.

By depositing all of our content in the Similarity Check database we allow other Similarity Check members to screen their submissions against our published articles.
